I won’t eat something “raw” if it isn’t organically certified — Do you know where I’m going with this?

Again, we’re dealing with a salesperson who isn’t quite knowledgable about her product.  I went online to find out more.  It turned out that this “VitaJuicedrink” was just a marketing thing similar to Amway.  I was further disturbed to find that nowhere on the website did it indicate that the product was organic either.  But I LIKED what benefits the drink had to offer.  And another drawback — there was a warning with the consumption by children.

So…the quest was on!

I was able to find a vitamin that IS organic and even better — Vegan!  It is called VitaForce and marketed by Organic Health and Beauty.  This company has loads of other supplements available that are organic.  But what drew me to the VitaForce was that it was ON SALE!  I had found the website a few weeks ago, but didn’t post it, as I thought it was expensive.  But today as I was looking through my bookmarks, Voila! The VitaForce supplement is on sale.

I thought their explanation was pretty neat regarding using WHOLE foods to make this supplement, rather than a lab.  If you read through the literature, you can see that an enormous amount of research (including the notorious B-12 deficiency and no vegan source) went into creating this “multi-vitamin”.

Here’s what also made me happy. There is no drawback for offering this to your children.  The other product was a smoothie drink type thing that had a warning regarding use with children.  Now yes, I don’t want to poison my kids with multi-vitamins, but I also know that their diet is always lacking nutritionally.  With the Vita Force it appears as though you can add as much or little as you would like via a scoop to any food or drink.  Nice.

But I thought that if you went to the vendors directly, surely they would offer more incentives, right? Welp, I found this company: The Only Natural Pet Store. They advertise holistic care for dogs and cats as well as organic dog food! And they offer HUGE incentives for shopping with them.

I digress: You know my family dog growing up loved to be treated with canned food once a week. Only to find out later that the canned food she was eating was slowly killing her! Apparently, dog food is made of high fats that are trimmed from butchers unfit for consumption. These fats are dropped on the floor, swept into vats and then processed into “dog food”. Of course they are processed with other “leftovers”, but the point is, our dog was dying of eventual heart failure due to these high cholesterol foods.

I’m so happy to know that someone in their infinite wisdom, developed organic foods for our pets and lifetime companions.

As there are these great “greenwashing” tactics  featuring some of the world’s most toxic companies, our organic trade pioneers are closing their doors!  I just found out last week as I went to do my weekly grocery run that our Wild Oats market is closing its doors forever!

Upon further investigation, I found that many of the organic traders both large and small are suffering from a weakened economy and worse — greenwashing!

“What is greenwashing” you ask? It’s the new “in-thing”. You purport that you are environmentally conscious and produce products that appear to be “green”.  Some people would also call this “pseudo-green”.  Do you really think that a bleach manufacturer is “green”?  Welp, it’s unfortunate, but the many of us are going for their new “green” products while watching them produce some of the largest market share of dioxin-producing chemicals in the home. Sheesh.

So…where are the “real” organic traders?!  Well, it seems that despite their revolutionary concepts and bright ideas, they are being shoved out. More and more people are attacking from within the industry, too.  This means that if a company is working toward an organic product line, but has a few “transitional” products, they are being criticized for those few items.  Point is: Nobody is perfect.  This is a learning process for us all!  We’ve conditioned ourselves to operate in a toxic world.  Thankfully, many of our organic traders saw this coming a long time ago and prepared to pave the way for mainstreamers to change their habits.

Support your local organic traders as much as possible.  I hope to provide links to many of these guys before they get shut out, too.  Support your local organic trade, too!  If you need an organic co-op in your area, I know just the person that can help you get started.
